Nice Large Cellar Hole found
Dan and I hunted a couple weeks ago. Per our usual methodology we were investigating potential cellar holes. We finally found a decent one:
The first time there Dan concentrated more on an area that produced lots of wheats and a Mercury Dime for him. Here is what he found:
The second time back he concentrated more on the areas right around the old foundation. He found some neat stuff (sorry no pics).
Here are my finds for the two trips:
Some crusty wheats and an IH:
The IH is pretty beat up:
Found a pill case?
An interesting “Brother” pin. Probably has some age to it.
Back side:
An 1892 Thimble:
Some junk:
A cool cheap old ring:
Dan and I kept finding these octagonal shaped tacks. We wondered what they were. Then I found one pounded into a piece of slate roofing. Also found a couple flat buttons:
Lastly, the other day I had to just do twenty minutes at the LC site after work. Found a wheat penny and this nice old little button:
Cleaned it up and it has some lettering on the back:

Canadian $2 with some silver
I took off a little early from work and went to my favorite old park. I concentrated on an area we have not hunted that much. It's in the woods and a lot of junk is too be found. I found a wheat penny or two but mostly trash. Moved over to the old sledding hill and found a 1940 Mercury Dime. The dime was just under the surface. Also was cool to find the Canadian Two Dollar coin. This didn't come from the old sledding hill but rather by some picnic tables. The coin wasn't even buried – just under some leaves.

Fourth V Nickel this year
Another couple hunts in the cool crisp fall air. The first time to the park I got a neat token and a silver war nickel.
Next time back I got the 1896 V Nickel.
My fourth V Nickel for the year. Pretty beat up but still a clear date. Also got a bunch of early wheat pennies. 1912, 1917, four 1918's, 1925, etc. Nate found a couple Indian Head Pennies but I didn't have such luck.

60's Clam Bake
I stopped after work at a park I have hunted pretty much. The weather was beautiful and with the growth down I just wandered around enjoying the colorful foliage and fresh air.
I ended up hitting a spot neither Nate and I had previously detected. From the finds it appeared to be the site of a 1960's clam bake. I found clam shells, foil, a silver plated fork, beer can lids and period coins.
Although not that old it was cool to put back together the event that generated the coin finds.

Road trip with Dan
Dan and I hit the road today. We were in search of some new sites and had at least 3 old abandoned/torn down school sites to hunt. We ended up hitting two schools from the twenties, two from the thirties and one from the 1800's without much to show for it. Still was fun to be out and hitting some new spots.
This site would have produced more if the dozier hadn't recently pushed all this clay over the original ground.
1923 but not a lot of land.
The Old Schoolhouse.
Nothing really special here although the button I believe could be silver and is old:

Postcard finds
It’s been a while since I have updated this blog. I haven’t been doing that much detecting lately. When I have gotten out I have been going back to an old Cleveland park. The first picture is a Mercury Dime found at the site shown in an old postcard (1920’s):
The place as it looks now (merc was near the big tree):
I also picked up another silver rosie on the hunt:
On earlier hunts in August I concentrated on the old Sledding Hill:
Since it has been heavily hunted mostly lower tones remain. Three Buffalo nickels in one hunt is a nice take:
Another hunt with Dan in August yielded a couple more silver. There was one spot that Dan and I discussed. I told him we never really found anything in the spot but he proceeded to go to it. I tagged along and ended up finding a Barber Dime within 20 feet of where he was hunting. He was not very happy – especially since he didn’t find any silver that hunt.
Finally, near my work is a site that dates back to pre 1874. It’s the same site that I found a civil war token back in the spring. It’s really overgrown now but I still found some interesting items:

Third Walker for the Year
Nate and I went back to the park where the last time I was there I found the Barber dime, IH and a couple other silver. I concentrated on the same areas. When I got the nickel signal I was hoping for a Buffalo but was happy to see it was a V nickel. The Walker was another surprise. Silver halves are always a surprise although with this one being the third one of the year they are not as surprising as they use to be.

Fathers Day hunt - Barber & IH
With Rachel’s graduation party off my back I was free to do some detecting. I headed out to a spot that usually has plenty of people but I was hoping that by going early I wouldn’t find them here. No luck. I didn’t have a plan B but came up with one after considering my wearabouts and options. Plan B turns into a wild goose chase. No map in the car, in an unfamiliar part of town, bridge out with major detour, etc. Couldn’t find where I wanted to go so I stop at a school ballfield I have never been to. Didn’t find much so on to Plan C. Plan C turned out to be a good one. Just a park Nate and I have hit many times. I used the small coil and went slow. I was rewarded with several decent keepers:
The site that I picked up the barber dime and IH contained a lot of rusted away beer cans:
Some other quick hunts:

The Month of May
May has been a busy month for me and time out with the detector limited. All the additional yardwork, graduation stuff, fishing, etc. have taken precedence over detecting. I did have some good luck fishing. First bite of the year, first fish, first 20 minutes of fishing and I get a nice 29" Walleye.
Hunts have been limited to very close by spots for an hour or so. Nothing spectacular for finds although I did manage to find a Walker. It was right next to the large nail shown in the picture. I was using the small coil and going very slow.

Nate on the other had has been tearing it up with the DFX. I found a school that started in 1957. A couple trips to this new spot has produced 7 silver already.
Some of Nates finds:
Nate scored another first this year – decides to dig what he said sounded like a nickel:
Nice solid 14K mens wedding band. Very Sweet. Found down in the metroparks.
And lastly for Nate was another surprise – a barber quarter.
